A 45-minute drive Northeast from Florence, Terra Bassa, AKA L’Orto del Vicino (“the neighbor’s garden”), is run by Leo, a Borgo San Lorenzo native who knew he wanted to grow fruits and vegetables from the time he was 7 and has since received a Masters in agriculture, and his wife Anna, who is from a neighboring town and also studied agriculture (along with chemistry) from an early age. Terra Bassa’s wines taste like carefully-crafted country wines and while they have the youthful energy you might expect from a project run by two fairly young people who are making wine on a polycultural biodynamic farm, they very directly point to a tradition of winemaking that stems from the region.

Terra Bassa is a minuscule project and the vast majority of their wines don’t make it out of their small Italian region, so we are very fortunate to have them here in Louisiana.
