Paterna is a biodiverse 15-hectare farm on the hills of Arno Valley (300 m) that was founded by three couples in 1982. About half of their land is planted to vines (between 4 and 50 years old), and Paterna has been organic certified since its founding in 1982, incorporating various biodynamic practices more recently. Their vegetable farm has been used in collaboration with the local school to provide meals and workplace training for people with intellectual disabilities.

In terms of grapes, they grow mostly Sangiovese, along with Canaiolo, Colorino, Ciliegiolo, Malvasia, and Trebbiano. While they release a Chianti Colli Aretini that conforms with strict regulations, Paterna continue making wines that align with traditional methods, resisting over-extraction and extreme alcohol levels and macerating white grapes.
