Clos Fantine
(Corine, Carole, and Olivier Andrieu)

Faugères, Languedoc, France

Imported by Camille Rivière

Siblings Carole, Corine, and Olivier inherited the hilly family estate from their father, Jacques, in 1997. Jacques had already converted the farming to organic practices, but he’d been selling grapes to the local co-op. Once the siblings took over, they set about building a winery, which was completed and used to vinify their first wine in 2000. By 2003, they had dispensed with all additives, beginning their journey into making radically transparent wines. The estate is made up of about 30 hectares of vines, nearly half of which were planted over 100 years ago. Each of the three siblings has their own focus within the operation—Olivier in the vineyard, Corine in the cellar, and Carole in the sales/administrative office—but they share the majority of responsibilities. The Andrieus have not tilled (plowed) their soil since 2014 and the majority of their vines have been bush/gobelet trained since they took over.

These are special, romantic wines from special, romantic people. The collaborative energy of the siblings emanates from each bottle and their soul-warming effects are palpable.
